DALE E. BASYE has been a journalist, film critic, and publisher of an arts and entertainment newspaper. He lives with his wife and son in Portland, Oregon.

The Good News

The good news is that the next book is due out later this year. I read the first five in the series all sort of at one time, so it's not easy waiting out the next ones. Of course, the Fausters, Milton and Marlowe, no I'm not kidding about the names, get sent to the place where kids who grow up to fast go after they die. Milton has died twice, of course, but that doesn't make the afterlife any easier. We see very little of Principal Bubb in this book, which is okay, since she's not all that nice to be around anyway. Read this one now, but take your time. The next book, entitled, uh, never mind what it's titled now that I think about it, won't be out until near the end of the year, and you don't want to be deprived any longer than absolutely necessary!

More Hilarity in Heck

At first I was cynical about this series, I mean, who wants to read about dead kids, right? But, Heck follows the misfortunate siblings down to Heck and manages to be tragic and hilarious at the same time. This series is lightly gruesome, action packed and full of wit. It has become family favorite. The writing seems overly done, descriptive and puny, but if you give it a chance, you'll find you can't stop reading it.
It's best to read this series in order. There's enough back references to jump in here if you need to, but start with the first book and read them all. Heck does not disappoint. I'm surprised this series is not on the best seller list.

Great Series

This is a great series. I first read it as an adult, and I enjoyed the dark humor, and the complex plotting. I'd get it for a kid aged 10 or 12 as well, if their reading skills were stronger than average, or for a teenager, one who's past the age to worry about looking "childish" if they read a kids' book.
